You only find a place like this by coming back. From late 2021 to June 2023 I was at Revolt Ett, Northvolt's battery recycling gigafactory in Skellefteå, and after the first year I lived in Stockholm and flew north on Mondays. Once a city stops being a checklist, you start asking locals where they actually go when the weather turns, and Kanaanbadet was the answer I got.

The route is simple. Take the green metro line to Blackeberg, come out of the lift and turn left, not right, and follow the path south through a quiet park. Ljunglöfska Castle appears beside the lake, and in winter the shore behind it looks like a snowy fairy tale. Keep going west past the old Kvarnvikens boat club, turn left instead of joining the main road, and you reach Kanaanbadet, to my mind the best beach on Lake Mälaren: smooth rocks, clear water, shade for a picnic and sunsets over the lake.

Finish at Kanaans Trädgårdscafe, a small garden cafe just above the shore, for coffee and something baked. The city is a few stations away and you would never know it. Do not save it for summer either, the lakeside walk is just as good in the snow.
