From late 2021 to June 2023 I worked at Revolt Ett in Skellefteå, Northvolt's battery recycling gigafactory, first as Technical PM for Wastewater Treatment and Utilities and then as Manager EIA. After the first year I moved my base to Stockholm and commuted: north every Monday morning, back every Thursday, 800 km each way most weeks. It is an odd and very good way to know a city, not quite a visitor and not quite a local. The city won me over the slow way, one long weekend at a time.

The story walks Gamla Stan's narrow streets to the Royal Palace and the Nobel Museum, crosses to Djurgården for the 17th-century Vasa ship and the Moderna Museet, follows Strandvägen along the water and heads into the archipelago by boat. Södermalm gets the most space, because its hills give the best view in the city, across the Royal Palace, the old town and Lake Mälaren. Karlberg Palace on its quiet canal and the green shores of Kungsholmen close it out.

Come in any season. Winter means cafes and fika, summer means midsummer on Djurgården and islands a ferry ride away, and both are worth the trip. Whether you come for history, design or just the water, the city stays with you.
